Winter Energy Saving Tips

Hello, winter!

That’s right, somehow winter is already here. This means ice skating at Campus Martius, bingeing Netflix on your 618 couch, the biggest football game of the year, and so much more. Winter sometimes gets a bad reputation, but it’s not all bad. Comment on our Facebook what your favorite winter activity is in Ann Arbor!

Since the weather is getting cooler, remember the following tips & tricks to help keep your DTE bill down—

  • Turn down (not off) the heat when you leave the apartment (your thermostat has programmable features that can be customized to fit your schedule).

  • Turn off all your lights when you leave the apartment and unplug electronics and chargers when not in use – a task made easier by using multiple-outlet strips, which can turn everything off with the flip of a switch.

  • Bundle up with warm accessories – instead of turning the heat up, put on a cozy winter sweater and warm socks. Keep throw blankets on your sofa and add an area rug to insulate the floor.

  • Consider getting a humidifier to add moisture to the air. Moist air feels warmer and holds heat better, so a humidifier can help you feel comfortable when your thermostat is set at a lower temperature.
