Ann Arbor continues to attract new residents charmed by the strong sense of community and the high quality of life enjoyed by those who live and work here. 618 South Main, a new apartment complex located on South Main between Madison and Mosley, has been designed to augment and embrace the Ann Arbor lifestyle with exclusive amenities and a leading edge sustainable design. In keeping with this commitment to sustainable principles, 618 South Main includes several one-of-a-kind furniture pieces placed in common areas such as the fireplace area, shuffleboard area, and the kitchen area. These custom pieces will be crafted locally from re-purposed, Michigan barn wood by a skilled and talented local Michigan artisan.
Sustainable Green LivingThe source of the re-purposed wood is a dilapidated barn east of Niles, Michigan. The trees used for the barn grew in the surrounding, natural environment and were originally cultivated from the farm to construct the barn. At that time, the wood species in the barn included white oak, red oak, sycamore, ash, elm and popular. The selected re-purposed wood from that barn is still strong and durable and promises to show an age and character that is both unique and everlasting in the final furniture pieces. Responsible for the construction of this timeless furniture Andy Brown, owner of Hearthwoods Custom Furnishings of Lakeside, Michigan, embraces his mission, which is “a focus on quality and beautiful styling using reclaimed materials that are locally gathered.”
Unique and BeautifulWeathered to a rustic perfection the beauty of the antique barn wood will become an integral part of 618 South Main. The finished furniture pieces will reflect 618’s sustainable objectives as well as a lifestyle reflected in the building’s rain garden, green roofs, private indoor parking with electric charging stations, and occupancy sensor controlled lighting in common areas. This loft style apartment community has been designed to exceed LEED Silver standards for both construction and operating efficiency, raising the bar in modern urban lifestyle for Ann Arbor.
